To find the perfect seat height for you:
-
Make sure your seat is level, not tipped up or down.
-
Then put on your biking shorts and shoes, then position your bicycle in a doorway, or mount your bicycle in your
trainer / exerciser.
-
Get on your bicycle, (and hold on to the doorjamb to support yourself if using the doorway method).
-
Have a friend stand behind you to watch your cycling movement as you pedal backwards, with your
heels on the pedals.
-
Your leg should be fully extended when your heel is on the pedal at its lowest point and your hips are level (photo A).
-
Once set correctly, tighten the seat adjustment securely. The seat should not move, unless it is designed to move with you.
If your friend notices that you are rocking your hips from side to side to reach the pedal at its lowest point, then the seat is too high. If your leg is not fully extended when the pedal is at its lowest point, then your seat is too low. Adjusting the seat height with your heel on the pedal will ensure proper leg bend when bicycling normally (photo B).

Notes:
-
This is only a guideline. If the seat still feels a little low or high for your personal comfort, adjust your seat up or down slightly to fine-tune.
-
When you've found the right position for you, mark the seat post with a permanent marker or electrical tape so you won't have to go through the entire adjustment process again. You can also measure from the top of the seat to the middle of the crank to ensure proper positioning
every time.
